race day

there has been lots of stuff happening. i have lots of photos to add here, but i figured i would do a quick post about the 5K race on July 4th morning.

matt and rob joined me in the race. fun. i was really glad for them about 3/4 of the way through. they kept the pace and i was really glad to have them there. kinda like our Christian life. good to have people around us keeping pace, running after Jesus, and challenging us.

we ended up finishing the race in 25 minutes 2 seconds!! that was 5 minutes faster than we were hoping for. it was funny to learn our time afterwards, because the whole last half of the race, i couldn't figure out why it was so hard to keep running. i just kept thinking "this shouldn't be hurting so much. i don't know how much longer i can keep running. oh no... i was hoping the end would be around this corner... oh no, i thought for sure the end was around this corner." then afterwards, i found out that we were running a much faster pace then we usually do. ha ha.

teressa was our loyal photographer/drink holder/cheerleader/baby watcher. dorinda came and cheered us on at the end too. it was fun. matt is already talking about when were going to do a 10K.... hmmmmm.

okay, now teressa has a little paragraph to add before i post some photos from the race.

(teressa) i just wanted to add that the night BEFORE the race tony had a little trouble sleeping apparently. we went to bed around 10:30 and i was sound asleep when tony came and shook my shoulder and said "Tress, it's time to get up for the race!" i looked at him confused because i hadn't heard the alarm go off and i always hear the alarm before he does. "Ava slept through the whole night!" tony added. now i was really confused. i looked at the clock. 11:30pm. i looked back at tony, dressed in his running shorts. "it's only 11:30." "what?!? you told me it was time to get up." "no i didn't." "you didn't?" "no." "i have my running shorts on." "i know. hahaha"

. . .and then i laughed myself back to sleep. . .

we were surprised by the hundreds of runners there. matt was representing number 550

matt and i. we trained together for 2 weeks and 2 days for this race.

we needed to wake up before we could stretch.

teressa and ava were rockin it at 6am. way to go ladies!

ava was getting anxious before the race. i told her to just take a nap. its good to have such an obedient daughter.

the three amigos

give me your race face. matt, this is no laughing matter.

speed racer.

we were lined up towards the back so we had lots of people to pass in the beginning. tress yelled out as we passed. ahhh... i can still remember the beginning. it was still fun at this point. how naive of us.

circling the bend for the final stretch

sprinting for the finish line

we were glad it was done. notice the girl in the lower left hand corner who looks exactly like my sister danielle. :)

oh come on rob, it wasn't that bad.

okay, okay. stop smiling for the camera, time to show how you really feel.

the gang. glad dorinda came.

the famous "banana after the race" shot. stole that from dorinda.

ava decided at the last minute to run in the race. she didn't make it to far. i think she may have still gotten a trophy for her age group though. they clocked her at doing 4 inches in 19 minutes.

hey napoleon, stay hydrated.

matt.

alright girls, i know its the fourth of july and all, but isn't this photo a bit too patriotic.
