She's been in such a goofy mood these last few days after she got over her cold. I guess she's really happy to be feeling better. She keeps making all these funny faces and then cracking up at herself. We also taught her to make a "funny face" by putting a finger in both sides of her mouth and pulling her mouth down. I also tried to teach her to make a "pig nose" but that kind of backfired because she interpreted that as putting her finger UP her nose as far as she could and then both fingers up her nose so she could make funny sounds. There's a life lesson for you.
There also seems to be a bit of a disconnect with her name lately. She still responds to "Ava" when we're talking to her but now instead of saying "Av" when we ask her what her name is she says "Hi you". If we show her a picture of herself and ask who that is, she says "Hi you!" If we say, "Where's dada?" she points to Tony and says, "dada", "Where's mama?" She points to me and says, "mama" or "Where's Lambie?" she points to her lamb and says "Ambie." But when we say, "Where's Ava?" she points to herself and says, "Hi you!" Hmmmm. . . All I can think of is that we greet her by saying "Hi you" a lot and if she sees herself in the mirror she says "Hi you" and somehow along the way she stopped saying her name and now when she hears "Ava" it goes into her ears and comes out her mouth translated into "Hi you!" So we're trying to use her actual name more and hopefully this is like a 3 day phase!
But it's ok, she doesn't really have to be smart because boy oh boy have her dance moves evolved lately. That girl can bust a move! We've been having lots of fun dance parties lately and she loves them!
Last night we went to Wal-Mart and used a gift card to buy her a potty chair. It's a pretty high tech one but it was love at first sight for me. Tony wasn't so sure, but I reasoned that potty training can be a very stressful time for a mom and if that particular chair brought me some small bit of joy then it was worth the extra $5 or $10. So we came home the the chair that looks like a real toilet (other than the big smiley face on the front of course). It has it's own pretend flush handle and a toilet paper holder and it says "encouraging phrases" and sings songs about using toilet paper and how great it is to go potty whenever the child uses it. I'm sure the TP songs will get old, but that little flusher and TP holder never will. I'm sure of it.
The only problem is that Ava has desperately wanted her own chair in the living room and we've been searching Craigs List and garage sales for one but haven't had any luck so far. And so her potty chair is viewed, I'm afraid, as the fulfillment of that particular dream of hers. It's in the living room now and she's spent the morning sitting on it or standing on the little step stool we also bought last night so that this pregnant mama wouldn't have to lift her up to the sink to wash her hands anymore. Oh well at least she likes it right? Maybe we need to buy two . . . just kidding Tony. . . I think.
Here's some more pics from our trip to the zoo. . .
Which way???
We love the zoo!
And the birds are our favorite part. Ava loves being in the "free flight" bird exhibit. There are cockatiels and parakeets flying everywhere and you can buy little sticks with bird seed to feed them. It's so fun.
Told you she loves it.
Hey, I think I took this one!
If ever a little girl needed a pony . . .
Oooh! Monkeys!
